NOTES OF THE TURF. A small meeting at Savannah, Georgia, is slated to begin November IS and continue for ten days. Sam Lazarus is on his way to Santa Anita with a string of seveni horses, having left Dallas last Saturday. Theodore Bodinc. who had charge of the programs on the eastern tracks, died of pneumonia last Sunday. E. C. Smith, racing secretary of the Los Angeles Racing Association, is on his way to Los Angeles, having left New York Tuesday evening. Orbicular, which was recently sold to D. A. Walker for ,000 at Dallas1. Texas, has been nominated for eleven stakes at Santa Anita Park. " AAalter Jennings is naming all his yearlings after stations along the Pacific Electric Railroad hi California. So far Oneonta and Los Robles have been honored. That the Santa Anita track will be lightning fast for the opening day is evident from the work reported last week. On Saturday last Old Timer is said to have covered a half in 4SS. John Dyment, the well-known Canadian turfman, besides being Interested in thoroughbred racing, is a devoted hockey enthusiast and is at present a candidate for executive member of the Ontario Hockey Association. AV. M. Murray, who had charge of the racing at the Utah State Fair, announces from Salt Lake City that a sixty-days meeting will begin at El Paso, Texas. December 5. Where its support is to come from is not apparent. J. B. Haggln, after about six weeks residence at Elmendorf, Ky.. has arrived jn New York to spend the winter. Mr. Haggin is awaiting the return of Matt tByrnes from Buenos Ayres before making a decision as to whether he will send more of his horses to the Argentine Republic. If Byrnes makes a favorable report it is likely that Mr. Haggin will put him at the head of a breeding establishment in the Argentine Republic. Louis Marshall took forcible possession of the horses Hector, AVee Lass and Bantam, .which were quartered near the Oakland track in charge of a trainer who had been employed by a man named Edwards, to whom Marshall had given a chattel mortgage on the horses last winter. Marshall claims that Edwards took possession of the horses after he had leftiiere last spring without due process of law. The matter probably will be aired in the courts.
