GREAT STAKES TO CLOSE MONDAY In all of the former great racing field of the southwest and central west there now remains of spring and summer racing only such meetings as aro held at the Kentucky tracks Those meetings at Lexington Louisville and Latonia deserve and will receive the fostering patronage of western turfmen but their duration is insufficient to provide for the wants of owners Many of these must perforce look elsewhere for employment for their horses To such the great array of stakes provided by the Coney Island Jockey Club Brooklyn Jockey Club and Brighton Beach Racing Association should appeal forcefully The two great organizations first named stood the brunt of the disastrous blows aimed at Xew York racing recently and it is largely due to their courageous and sagacious measures of defense that the sport survives on an encouraging basis of returning prosperity Their stakes now on offer close for entries at midnight of next Monday and it is the plain duty of all western owners to recog ¬ nize the sacrifices made that racing may live and to in some measure recompense them by entering every good horse they possess hi these stakes They are increased in value over those of last year and if owners now show the measure of appreciation gratitude and selffnterest dictate further increases will be the almost certain result Entry blanks are at this otlice for all who may need them and Daily Racing Form urges owners to rally unitedly In mak ¬ ing nominations up to all precedents The following telegram reached Daily Racing Form yesterday yesterdayNew New York December 31 1900 You may assure horsemen that the relations between the Jockey Club and the Brighton Beach Racing Association are friendly and entries to stakes at Brighton Bench may Iw made without fear of complications En ¬ tries mailed prior tx midnight January 3 will be ac ¬ ceptable 1 W A Engeman
