RESTORING CONFIDENCE AT LATONIA LATONIACincinnati Cincinnati 0 March 15 The Latonia Jockey Clu is going to make every effort to reestablish public confidence in racing the Enquirer quotes John Hachmeister as saying after the club held its animal meeting recently We understand thor oughly why the Latonia races lost caste with the public There was not one reason but many jSvervone knows that it is an uphill job this re ¬ kindling of a racing spirit but it is going to be given a fair trial There is not much if anything In sight for the owners of the track but they are willing to take the chance The betting will b dcnia through parimutuels and this will to an ex ¬ tent cut down the professional players This will not affect the status of the sport but will be felt in the business circles of Cincinnati CincinnatiAll All the new management asks is that the pub lie should withhold its judgment of the race meet ¬ ing at Latonia until It is iu operation Without bookmaklng without owners running their horses over their own track and with good officials there should be no trouble in running a race track right to the lino This should not be construed to mean that the Latonia races were offcolored heretofore Rather there were a good many things that came up upon which the public placed the worst possi ¬ ble construction Bookmakers and their help were largely responsible for tills and much of the alleed scandal of the race track came from hotel lobbies where the men that laid the odds wanted to mike themselves appear as smarter than anyone else ami each wiser than his fellow layer The Latonin meeting will be ruu just as it is heralded winner or loser
