.j. DERBY WINNERS OF THE PRESENT YEAR ! Seven Derbys were run in North America this year. The most valuable of the lot was the Latonia Derby, which Manager John Ilachmelster. of the Latonia Jockey Club, has set out to make one of the most attractive and important events of the kind in the country. Next in. point of value came the Kentucky Derby, whose wealth of sentiment and tradition gives it an importance far out of proportion to its intrinsic value. The Brooklyn Derby was revived during the year, coincident with the re-establishment of New York racing, but on a modest scale as compared with the days of its affluence. The following tabulation embraces a summary of all the Derby races of the year: Derby. Dist. First. Wt Owner. Jockey. Second. Wt. Third. Wt. Val. Time. Palmetto 1 1-4 Monocacy ..110 J. O.
