NOTES OF THE TURF. James W. Wadsworth, Jr., who has just been elected United States senator from New York, has always been a staunch friend of racing. Johnson N. Camden, one of Kentuckys foremost racing men nnd breeders, was re-elected United States senator from the Blue Grass state Tuesday. Senator Camden is still the nominal head of the Kentucky State Racing Commission, although Iw has taken no part In its deliberations since nH entry Into the senate. The York, Eng., Racecourse Committee has been informed by the local military authorities that the whole of the buildings on the Knavesmire from now until the end of the winter will be required for the troops. Gas is being installed, and many other arrangements made for converting the Knavesmire into a semi-permanent camp. It Is understood that the charge to be paid by the military will be on Ihe basis of a penny per man per day. which will be but a small set-off to the rent of ,000 per annum paid by the Racecourse Committee to the Corporation of York, the rates of ,000, and the loss of the August race meeting receipts.
