READY FOR ACTION ON WILCOX BILL. Parliament Expected to Appoint Committee to Deal •with Questions of Racing Restrictions. Ottawa, Que.. May 3. — While no official announcement has yet been made, it is understood that the government will ask parliament this week to appoint a Special committee of five to revise and re port upon the- Wilcox bill respecting racing tracks in Canada. It is likely tie- following members will be selected: Me-ssrs. H. H. Stevens Vancouver. W. B. North-rup Hastings and Oliver Wilcox Essex, Conservatives, and Charles Wilson Laval and Win. F. Carroll Cape Breton. Liberals. It is anticipated that Hon. Mr. Doherty, minister of justice, will, in moving the appointment of the committee, define its status and its powers, determine the character and extent of its investigations. and indicat" the nature of the legislation upon which it will be asked to advise parliament. Immediately upon nppointmen: the committee is expected to "get busy." Whether all its sittings will be held in Ottawa or whether it will take opportunity to visit certain of the spring meetings and allow its members to see actual conditions for themselves lias not yet been determined. Vnless parliament prorogues earlier than is now anticipated, the legislation to be framed will be enacted at the present session and take effect before the autumn meetings of the racing associations.
