FEW HORSES WINTERING AT LOUISVILLE LOUISVILLE, Ky.. February 5. At Churchill Downs and Ihniglns Park race tracks, two of the greatest racing plants in the country, there are comparatively few horses wintering. It . is estimated that only about 200 head are quartered at the two plants, while in 1918 at the same time of the year over 000 racers were in winter quarters here. A trainer who has been connected with the sport for many years was. heard to remark: "The small number of horses now in winter quarters liere can easilv bo accounted for. The upkeep of the stock has become so high during the past year that a majority of the small fryVhavc been compelled to dispose of their stock and lie low for the time being. I hnd several head of stock- and disposed of what I had to the government and a few fanners."
