TWO OLD TIME SIRES OF HIGH FAME Darebin a Grand Race horse ;in-. Australia and Onon- Cwojt horses -influential in our breeding in their" prime arid with only: a years difference in their ages, were Darebin and Onondaga, .the, fprnier Australian and the latter American. The latter was brought to this country by tle late J. B. Huggin. At Raucho del Paso he. proved, .a highly successful sire and his daughters were valuable brood mares, one of them, Emma p., being the diim of the brilliant racer and famous sire Commando. Darebin was one of Australias most celebrated race horses and wound up a great career by winning the Sydney Cup with 135 pounds on his back. His sire, The Peer, wasf.ati English bred sou of Melbourne and his dam Lurline was one of the most famous of Australasian race mares and several, times a cup winner. He was a good two-year-old himself and winner of the Juvenile Stakes at Jerome Park, July Stakes at Monmouth Park, Kentucky Stakes at Saratoga and of a- match with Sachem at Slieeps-head Bay. His legs failed him and lie -was not raced after his two-year-old days. In the stud he-was distinctly a success.and sired many good racers, among which were Bootmaker, Blessed, Blessihg, Once Again, Oregon, Ambulance, Chimes, Oarsman, Derfargilla, Yale- 91 and Curt Gunn, afterward Locohatchee. The latter was an extra good racer and sire of many fast horses, among which was Caiman, which in England ran the fastest mile on record anywhere.
