NEW AUSTRALIAN JUMPING RECORD At the Caulfield course of Melbourne Australia March 20 in the Garden Steeplechase of two miles under 179 i ounds Bunroy an elderly black gelding by Silent Friend Maria and consequently of rather cloudy pedigree made a new Australian steeplechase record of 342 The course is one of eleven stiff fences Bunroy at 14 to 1 in the betting won by a half length from the favorite Jack Friar 152 pounds Bunroy had never shown quite such quality before He was ridden by Stanley Reid a gpod crosscountry jockey and was trained by his owner George Osborne also a racing veteran The horse was prepared at Caul field and has several times set local records for races rim over the course on which he won The record Bunroy displaced was Rayon dOrs 344 which has stood since 1917 and was made over the same ground under 152 pounds
