BOWIE TURF NOTES i J. S. Stotler of Baltimore sent word from New York that he was shipping W. K. Coes Ladysman from Belmont Park, N. Y., to Washington Park for a try at the American Derby. Johnny Gilbert has been engaged to ride Charley O. in the American Derby. Charley O. turned a mile yesterday in 1:41 at Washington Park. J. B. Belk of Virginia will ship Flaming Mamie, Axentea and Madam Snob to Hag-erstown next Wednesday. Belk sent several of his steeplechasers back to the farm today. Max Smart plans to send twenty-five horses to Rockingham Park, New Hampshire, at the conclusion of this meeting. He will be accompanied by jockey R. Simpson. Horsemen failed to fill a substitute race that was framed to take the place of the Rowe Memorial on Saturday. Secretary Joseph McLennan added a purse of ,500 for the substitute event, but the response was very disappointing. Stake blanks embracing four stakes to be decided during the summer meeting at Empire City, were issued to horsemen at Bowie. Nominations for the four fixtures close on June 8.
