FEDERAL RESERVE alternated in forcing and setting the pace, but was unable to withstand the challenge of the winner. DR. SYNTAX, away slowly, saved ground in the stretch and closed gamely. BOOKIE, close up all the way, tired in the final drive. CARYLDON loomed up dangerously on the outside near the stretch, but tired in the last eighth. ALTSHEB tired in the closing quarter. DRAGON DE VERTU jumped well and closed gamely. RED TAM showed in front after taking the tenth fence, but tired thereafter. TOMBOLO trailed far back most of the way. CURTAIN CALL was rushed going to the fourteenth fence, where he. lost his rider. THISTLE JOHN showed speed, but lost his rider at the thirteenth fence. LEAD-GOLD lost his rider at the first obstacle.
