RACING IN HARLKBI HARK MUD MUDThe Mute The unfavorable weather conditions which throughout the present week have afflicted Harlem racing were still existing yesterday afternoon much rain having fallen on the track in the preceding twelve hours and thoroughly soaking the soil Of the six events four were at the distance of one mile or over Out of fiftynine fifty entries only seven were scratched Eighteen bookmakers were in the big ring The ihowers howlers of the forenoon seeming but the forerun ¬ ners nears of others the attendance was materially affected but enough regulars were out to make up an average crowd crowdThe crowd The first race with its seventeen head of threeyearold maidens was such a guessing affair that after the bookies had posted 2 to 1 against Cutter they were all at sea as to the prices of the others and the continual shifting of odds the first few moments caused a great demand for new pieces of chalk and chamois skin Once settled the odds were snapped up by the hungry spectators as it was conceded that almost anything on four legs might win such race The start as might have been expected was somewhat straggling Alvas Alva Pet ran her race at the breakaways but jumped to the front when the barrier went up and led Chantilla Chantilly for a furlong where she shut up and Chantilla Chantilly head ¬ ing King her ran in the lead to the wire winning under the whip from Hammon Hammond who was always second Waubun Auburn and Penso Peso Eoso Neosho were third and fourth respectively from start to finish until close home where Muskadine Misaimed came down the center of the track and got third money Horses not mentioned were never prominent prominentMr prominent Mr Dwyer had considerable trouble in getting the horses off for the second race Alvarado Allargando II and Dorothy III acting badly Inuendo Innuendo led at the quarter from Pearl Walker Millie M third The latter quit instanter instant and Alvarado Allargando who had got off on the extreme inside and ran around the bunch on the first turn showed third at the threeeighths but Tranby Tabby soon passed him and Alvarado Allargando at once fell out of the race Tranby Tabby got to Pearl Walker at the far turn and then racing Inuendo Innuendo for the lead the pair drew away from the others Into the home stretch Tranby Tabby was taken wide by Ellis and lost some ground so that at the betting ring the jockey began riding hard as Inuendo Innuendo was still slightly in the lead ahot hot race home the horses boring in so that closely together they finished over against the inside rail and Tranby Tabby won Pearl Walker third was beaten forty yards and the others were badly strung out outGold outsold Gold Fox opening at 3 to 1 was backed down to 5 to 2 Survivor standing at 8 to 5 Then the ball rang Gold Fox was scratched and a new book made in which Survivor opened at 3 to 2 and went to the post at even money Off well enough the favorite ran on the outside of the first bunch and at the turn for home was near the outside fence Lillie Mark had taken the lead with Volandies Villainies second and Cheval dOr doer third and the quartette struck into the straight in a bunch the first named being in the center of the track Lillie Mark led to within 150 yards of the wire and then did not finish one oneijp one ijp dip three Volandies Villainies winning with Survivor second and Cheval dOr doer third The favorite swerved slightly at the last eighth but finished as strongly as a horse could with a weak jockey With a strong boy up he must have won in spite of his long journey It was understood that the owner of Gold Fox objected to the boy Zeno Zen on his horse and asked to have his colt excused although Gold Foxs Foxes preliminary showed well wellIn welling In the fourth race Proverb first for a quarter was absolutely after running half a mile Collins had shot to the lead passing the betting ring the first time and he led all the way win ¬ ning Ming pulled double at the finish Hosi Hoi was always safe in second position and beat Swords ¬ man third easily Mr Easton was third for seveneighths seventieths of a mile The betting was very spirited on this race and Hosi Hoi jumped from 8 to 5 up to 3i to 1 while Swordsman was well supported as was also Mr Easton EastonBrown Easton Brown Gal a mean acting filly that has not before this season faced the starter here re ¬ fused to break after Dwyer had given her several chances and was left standing at the post Lady Callahan darted out in front but Storm King nailed her at the half and stopping her to a walk at fiveeighths firefights went on about his business taking the long road Harry Gaines bad gained several lengths coming around the far turn and as Fitzgerald rode him cati cacti cornered into the straight he was racing Storm King at the last eighth In a whipping finish with the pair locked Storm King beat Harry Gaines Lady Callahan third was beaten seventyfive seventy yards the others nowhere Pete Kitchen was a bad last all the way but Depending was a close third up the back stretch Kid Rogers got on Storm King at the best price 3 to 2 which was sent to 6 to 5 at post time timeJ time J Eeiff Eiffel when at the post on Don Quixote was thought to have met the accident which will in the judgment of many horsemen surely come to him His horse broke away ran zig zing ¬ zag age through the horses turned at the inside fence then dodged across to the paddock gate where stopped he was bhooed booed back to the post When the start was made Don Quixote was just straight off of a whirl and every man with a heart in him breathed more freely when J Eeiff Eiffel got safely around the turn With Newsgatherer Newscaster only in front of him Don Quixote had the leader beaten at the half and romped home winning away off Prince Blazes was third until Newsgatherer Newscaster quit and thereafter held place honors Prosecutor ran third Sir Hobart ran a very bad race It was suggested that as he is one of the few horses that have lately beaten Elidad Elided in heavy going his chance to win was excellent There was an ominous 7 to 10 Sir Hobart to show posted for a time timeBiscuit Biscuit Billy says that King Bermudas two wins in succession helped him well along toward paying for his horses and gave him a glimpse of Comfortable avenue avenueDick avenue Dick Williams trainer for Barney Schreiber was a visitor at Harlem yesterday He was making airangements arrangements for stable room and will ship his horses here next week weekSurvivor Survivor ran at least an eighth at a break ¬ away and J Woods had hard work to stop him This probably took something out of Dunnes Dunes colt coltThorpe coauthored Thorpe was to have ridden Survivor and the bicycle accident which injured his hand cost Pat Dunne and his friends a lot of money
