GOSSIP OF THE TURF Most of the fresh New York alleged turf re ¬ porters are hammering away at Starter Fitz Fritz ¬ gerald in ferocious style since the race for the Futurity It is not likely that their illna Vilna ¬ tured toured and unjust howling will affect his position seriously however Fitzgerald himself lays the delay on the jockeys exclusively saying sayingIt saying It was utterly impossible to get the field away before I did for the reason that a num numb ¬ ber beer of the jockeys who have been severely disciplined acted outrageously The horses were all tractable and on several breaks at least eighteen of them were aligned like cav cava ¬ alry alary chargers The others were so badly handled by their jockeys that it was out of the question to drop the flag until everybody could get away fairly It would have been an injus minus ¬ tice trice to the public to have left some of the heavily supported choices standing still so I simply waited until I conld cold get the field away together When the flag fell all but the Duke of Middleburg Middlebrow got off to a fair start but later on I saw Martimas Martians crowding one of the Fleisch Flemish mann horses The jockeys were to blame for the trouble and they have been punished punishedIt punished It seems to have been a case very much like that of the American Derby of 1893 where the horses were at the post longer than they were in the Futurity and plainly because of the determination of certain of the jockeys to secure the best of the start for the great t 0000
