The chief event will be the Queens Plate, ,000 added, to be run on the opening day. Lightweight jockey Devins guardian, Tom Boyle, has contracted the boys services to Burns and Waterhouse for a year. The boy ia promising and will be given every chance. Barns and Waterhouse have a St. Anthony; so has Ed Corrigan. George Rider and M. F. Tar-pey have both claimed the name of Amador for a two-year-old. San Francisco Chronicle. The Cumberland Park officials could not see their way clear to give a meeting with any prospect of clearing expanses, so there will be no racing at Nashville this spring. The New Zealand bred horse Pouuamu, by Newminster Beryl, has been purchased by the Russian Government for cavalry stud purposes. A bill has been introduced in the Texas legislature to suppress pool selling in that state. Rooms are now open in several cities. In the Papinta purchase from Mrs. Holly was a slashing looking youngster by Libertine Minnie Elkins, by Duke of Montrose. Tho two-year-old brother to Diggs and Olinthus has been named Diomed. Galon Brown has the youngster in training. Enquiror, Chicago, 111. The fourth race at San Francisco Pacific Union Stakes was for three-year-olds and upward. Stepabont, W. Fishers fast St. George mare, died suddenly the other day at Oakland track. San Francisco Examiner.
