NOTES OF THE TURF. Secretary Price, who is the presiding steward of the California Jockey Club, will leave for Louisville on April 1 to take charge of the coming meeting here. Col. Clark will be the presiding judge at Louisville as usual, and will have Mr. Price as his associate in the stand. Louisville Courier Journal. "Dick" Roche is reported to be the owner of a very promising two-year-old in a colt by Candlemas from his old time favorite The Lioness. Roche has a good many Chicago friends who will be pleased if the colt turns out to be a first flight star. Dr. H. E. Rowells entire stable has been suspended at Oakland because of the glaring contrast between the last two races run by Imperious. The suspension does not apply to stake engagements. Rome Respass has sold the colt Judge Tarvin, 3, by Lord Hartington Eurie, for ,000 to a New Yorker whose name is not to be divulged for a time for some reason. The colt is to be shipped to Sheepshead Bay Monday. Betokening the near approach of the regular racing season of 1899, programs of the meetings at Little Rock, Newport and Bennings are out and in readiness for the use of horse owners.
