Mr. Croft was 51 years old, and he leaves a widow and one sou about 16 years of age. He had been intimately connected for many years both with theatrical enterprises and with racing. His father was an Englishman and his mother a Quaker. Along about 1885 he was a sort of confidential agent for the Mapleson Opera Troupe, having charge of the box office. Shortly after that Mr. Withers employed him to have an oversight over the financial affairs of Monmouth Park. He remained with Mr. Withers until the death of the latter, and then, in conjunction with Judge Mon-son, had considerable to do in the settlement of the estate. About a year ago, after the death of Charles Victor Sass, Mr. Croft was employed by Mr. Engeman as secretary of the Brighton Beach Racing Association. Mr. Croft was a man of many amiable qualities and he was well liked by a largo circle of acquaintances, both in racing and in the theatrical profession."
