ORWOSDES 1EASSFES. Ormonde, St. Carlo and Mr. McDonougha broodmares were leased to Mr. Haggin instead of being sold to him. Tbe San Francisco Breeder and Sportsman says of this important transaction: "Mr. Haggin has entered the .English market with his yearliogs and is annually shipping a large consignment o them there to In sold at anstion. He has found that those by English and Australian sires sell bet, and with that business foresight which has enabled him to b?come one of the foremost millionaires of tho world, he concluded that what the wealthy Englishmen desired he would try to furnish. Superintendent John Mackay, than whom no more practical or more successful horse broader exists, is certain that when handled in the manner the Bancho del Paso stallions aro, Ormonde will prov9 a sure foal getter, leading experts bavin? decided after a thorough microscopical examination that the bor9 is in perfect health and vigor. Bancho dol Paso has some of the greatest broodmares in America, and should the daal be made and the consignment of 1901 from this farm to tho English market contain a fow of the get of Ormonde, together with those of Goldfinch, Golden Garter, Artillery and other well-known sires now owned by Mr. Haggin, ve may expect to see the highest average ever obtained at a sale of California bred horses, consequent profit to tbo venture and additional fame to our state as a horse-breeding locality." Last Sundays Ban Francisco Chronicle says of the deal: "Tbe contemplated deal in regard to tire transfer of all thoroughbreds owned by IV. OB. McDonoagh at Menlo Stock Farm to Bancho del Paso was consummated on Friday, and the necessary papors have been forwarded -to J. B. Hagain for bis signature. John Mackay and W. OB. McDonough had a long consultation on Friday, end all details were satisfactorily adjusted, The deal will result in the temporary breaking up of Menlo Park, as, although J. B. Haggin haB not purchased the McDonough horses, he has secured a long lease. "In viow cf the grand record of Flying Fcx, ! .grandson of Ormonde, the magnitude of the present deal will be understood by students of breeding. Bancho del Paso will now have Ormonde, the horeo of the century. and three of kis sons in Goldfinch, Orsini and Ossary, As Orme, a son of Ormonde, leads all the winning sires in England this year by mora than 100,000, the wisdom of securing this blood for a big breeding establishment like Bancho del Paso annot ba overestimated. "Ormonde is now about fifteen years old, and is admittedly the grandest-looking thorough-brad in all America. "Ormonde will have a greater opportunity at Bancho del Paso, said W. OB. McDonough, and he may get more foals. At all events, I am .confident that Ossary will make a great reputation in the 3tud. He is by Ormonde and was highly tried as a colt. "Mr. McDonough spent 50,000 in his breeding venture nt Menlo Park."
