Wiuner-B. f. by Favor — Nydia II. Went to post .at 2 :15. At post 24 minutes. Start fair. Won easily ; the next four were driving hard. Cinera acted badly at the post and was the cause of the long delay. She finally got away well on her stride, took the shortest route and had considerable left at the end. All the other riders, with the exception of Ross, swung clear to the outside at the head of the stretch leaving plenty of room for Cinera and nothing to contend with. Edith Q. ran a nice race. Scor-nolette made up much ground in the last three furlongs. So did Water Alone and Nancy B. all of which made their move after the race was practically over. Lady Seabrook was a false favorite and retired early. Donna Bella is a speedy filly but runs out in her races. Scratched- 17916 Sorrel la, 108. Overweights— Scorpolette, 3 pounds. Won hard driven; second, third and fourth doing their best. Major Mansir improves with every race. He is a big, long 1 striding fellow that likes a route and came from behind in this race gamely. Wax had no ! | excuses. He was cleverly rated in front, took the shortest route and simply tired when j the pinch came. Elsie Venner had Microscope hemmed in on the rail all through the stretch, otherwise the latter would have l een third. Both Round O. and Louisville tired m the stretch. Prince Plenty, going the route riderless, caused more or less interference. The latter broke 1 well in the bunch, but got all tangled and fell. Went to post at 3:30. At post 24 minutes. Start good. Won hand ridden; second, third and fourth were doing their best. Madam Gerst broke up several good starts, but when it was a go she was away Hying and won all the way. Irma S. had no exenses and ran to the mark. Money Back came strongly in the run through the stretch. Mark lsen in cheap company with light s weight up. Crossniolina appeared to have a royal chance while going down the backstretch, but t her rider got her into a jam and was obliged to pull up to avoid going down. Winner-B. g, by King Alfonso— Joppa. Went to post at 4 :15. Off at the first break to a good start. Won easing up ; the next throe . behind the winner wen very busy. Admetus revived suddenly and made his field look cheap. He is a good horse over a distance of ground. Flick was much more active on the gelding than i tie was the last previous time he rode him. Holdup, at a false price, ran a good, honest race. Julius Caesar seems to like a route, and under pressure from the three furlongs post home hung , in gamely." Ben Chance appeared like a winner on the far turn, but faded away in the last t quarter Owensboros race was out of line. He beat Admetus the last t ime the pair was out. Winner— Br. c. by Esher— Lady Caroline. Went to post at 4 :40. At post 4 minutes. Start fair. Won driving to the limit ; second easily. Benson Caldwell . won another lucky race. In fact it was more of a scratch than his Whiting 8 Stakes win was. Battue had everything beaten at the head of the stretch and then jockey Miller r took a nap. When he awoke he discovered that the race was over and that he was second. Battue " is a good, honest, consistent colt und was entitled to win. Benson Caldwell is certainly a wonder over a distance of ground and his rush through the stretch, after being badly outrun, was a phenomenal one. Ben Magen beat the barrier but was not good enough for this advantage e to do him any service. Icon got badly cut passing the half mile ground. Miller was fined 00 ** for his carelessness on Battus. Winner— B. m,.by Blazes— Planetta. Went to post at 5 :20. xt post 4 minutes. Start good. The first four were closely bunched and driving to the limit. Ennomia was lucky and well ridden. She was tiring fast at the end and barely lasted long enough to win. Orion stopped and then came again in the stretch. Dow-sie, under a poor ride, ran a good race and finished gamely. Tillie W. was undoubtedly the best and with any kind of a decent ride she could not have lost. Stuart placed her badly during the early stages of the journey and in the stretch rode her into a pocket where she had no chance whatever to get through. The filly is good and can beat this kind at any time. Zacatoso did well as far as he went. Evelyn Byrd seems to be of no present account.
