Sweet Lavender showed the most speed but had to be hard ridden in the last furlong to stall off Ashe.-The latter ran a winning race under the circum-tances. She got off poorly and had to go around her field on the turn. She then closed fast but seemed to hang when she reached the leaders. She is not consistent. Luerana should win in such company. He was outrun in the first part and closed with a grand burst of speed, appearing to be catching Queen Louise, but stopped when he reached her. swerving a bit near the finish.
