Winner— Ch. c, by Faerdale— Golden Rod II. I Went to post at 2:15. At post 15 minutes. Start good. Won eased up; it was a terrific drive -for second place. Silverdale, according to this performance, is by far the best colt shown in the west this year. He fairly ran away from Garry Hermann, who has heretofore held all others j safe, and from the head of the stretch home lie simply cantered. Garry Hermann may not have been at hi best but as usual he displayed great gameness. Battus is a good, honest youngster ■ltd better ridden could not have lost second place. At the head of the stretch Miller dropped Uattus head and went to the whip. This cost him second place as Battus swerved badly losing much ground. Likene:rs was sharply interfered with at the start. Cora Goetz was pinched off ] ou the far turn and Narvaez had to pull her up. In Shot threw her rider at the post but did not run away far and no damage resulted from this. Winner— Ch. h. by Sir Modred— Fidelity. Went to post at 2 :55. At post! minutes. Start excellent. Won driving to the limit and out to the last ounce; second and third driving also. Hermoso was lucky, weU ridden and finished more gamely than ever before. Rose took the horse back a trifle on the stretch turn and saved him cleverly for the finish. Bangle seemed to sulk a trifle in the last quarter. Boland perhaps would have won with him had he gone to the whip and had he not been overconfident. The horse, however, is mean tempered and had his ears pinned far back all through the stretch. Larkspur may have been a trifle short. She appeared to have a winning chance on the stretch turn, but swerved badly under punishment. Ed Gartland II. made up ground throughout and ran a good race. Ailanto got into a bad pocket on the far turn and had an extremely rough journey. Throw this race out. Cora Havill II. showed some speed. Scratched— 17170 Ella Penzance, 113. Chenier got the worst of the start, but was by far the best. He was perfectly ridden and went to the front when ready. Lord Chesterfield is a good safe jumper and has a fine turn of speed. He was entirely too much used early and tired badly before the journey wa6 over. Becky Rolfe ran a fair sort of a race. Phil Becker was short and when he tired in the stretch OBrien eased him up. Tincraft did well as far as he went. Harddie L. stumbled and unseated Kerin at the water jump. The horse then went over the entire course riderless. Scratched-18082Monita, 143. Winner— B. h, by Hanover— Pomona. Went to post at 3:55. At post 4 minutes. Start good. The first five were driving to the limit. It was a spectacular finish and Burns clearly outfinished the other jockeys. He could have won ou either of the first four horses. Sam Fullen was best and Silvers, in his effort to ride a finish, did everything but fall off. Both Handpress and Sam Fullen are extremely game horses and in the last twenty yards they were biting at one another. Handpress bore in and Sam Fullen out and they came near fouling each other. Moodys ride on The Monk was miserable ami this I considered the colt ran a cracking good race. Although Moodys ride was poor Bergens performance on The Lady was still worse. He used this game, honest filly up by pacemakiug and [ ■ as everything but an assistance to her. Cambrian finished stoutly. Boney Boy shot his bolt early. Graziella was beaten off all the way and made a bad showing. Overweights— The Monk, 3 pounds. Handpress, place, 5 to 1 ; show, 2 to 1. Sam Fullen, place, 4 to 5; show, 2 to 5. The Monk, thuw, 2 to 1. Bradford waited with him in ; the first half, but when he cut loose, the Prince went by the other horses like a flash. The Bobby ran well and finished stoutly. Microscope and Holdup ran their races in the first mile and when , the real contest began, both were tired enough to lie down. It was a tired lot and they were ■ badly strung out at the finish. Barrack is a useful horse in heavy going. He was lucky, well ridden and was the best. Miss Shanley had no excuses other than that the route was too far and ran a good race. This is a speedy filly, but three-quarters of a mile is as far as she wants to go at present. Vohicer was Bharply shut off and obliged to pull up the far turn. Throw this race out for him.
