Winner— B. c, by Bersan — Katherine Bassett. Went to post at 2:15. At post 12 minutes. Start fair. Won easily ; second handily; third j and fourth driving to the limit. Henry Burt got away well in his stride, was lucky and never ally extended. He crossed over in front of Maldonado, sharply interfering with and almost throwing the latter in the stretch. This considered Maldonado ran a good race and can be j marked for early action, having worked a fast five-eighths of a mile over the Hawthorne track. Only Burns powerful finish landed The Butcher in third place. Grandon ran a smashing good , race and finished resolutely. Dalkeith got in a tangle at the start and never got straightened out. Hanswurst ran away about a mile before the race. Scratched-18524 Jack G., 103. Overweights— The Brave. U pounds. Henry Burt, place. 10 to 1 ; show. 4 to 1. Maldonado, place, R to 5 ; show. 4 to 5. Winner— B. m. by Racine— Aurelia II. Went to post at 3:00. Off at the second break to a good start. Won easily; second driving and staggering. Third and fourth also under keen pressure. Sly had a pull in the weights, and under a good ride ran a cracking good race. Buchanan took the mare back down the back-stretch, thus avoiding the early pace, which was terrific, and waited until the homestretch was reached before he made hi i move. Then Sly went past May Beach like a streak. May Beach showed all of her speed, but Devin rode her with miserable judgment, wearing her out the first five furlongs, which were run in phenomenal time. Ailanto, on the rail, finished with a tremendous rush. Under ■ good ride Algareta ran a good race, and can be marked for early action. Bangle sulked in the first part of the race, but closed stoutly at the end. Brisk also finished fast and can win at a longer distance. Minyoti got all mixed up at the start and never fairly got into her stride. Emma M. was shy of speed. Scratched— 18164 Malay, 95; 14213 Pope Leo, 98. Overweights— Brisk, 3 pounds ; Miuyou, 2. Winner— B. f, Norwood— Fern Leaf. Went to post at 3 :32. Off at the first break to a good start. The first three were pushed past the wire many lengths apart. Frond is a good safe fencer and was well ridden. It is doubtful, though, if she could have beaten Myosoti6 if the latter had not met with an accident. At the tenth jump Myosotis was apparently winning easily, when she stumbled and fell. After this Frond had everything her own way. Zufallig stumbled over the jumps and plodded at the same gait all the way. Minor D. showed speed but pulled up very lame. Bone Setter fell at the same time Myosotis did. OBrien, who rode Bone Setter, had his collar bone broken in the fall. Neither of the other riders was hurt. After betting had been in progress, the judges discovered Phil Becker was in do condition to start and ordered him scratched. The usual time was allowed for a new book. Winner— B. f. by Russell— Fresco. Went to post at 4:15. Off at the first break to a good start. Won easily. It was a fierce drive for second place. Free Hand got away fully in her stride and showed the most speed of the field. Buchanan took no chances with the filly ; he hugged the rail all the way and won off ! ae far as he could. Pre6tar ran gamely and got second place in the very last stride. This horse is good now and can win in such company at once when the track becomes muddy. Crosby had no excuses. He i-a good work horse, but does not amount to much at the races. Galileo came ! from a long way back iu the last half. Owensboro seems to be of little or no present account. Old Mike »a- heavily backed, but showed little speed. It was an ordinary lot. Free Hand, place, 3 to 1; show, 3 to 2. Prestar, place, 2 to 1 ; show, evens. Crosby, show, evens. Winner— Ch. g, b The Hero Little Grove Queen. Went to post at 1:15. At post 9 minutes. Start excellent. Won driving and staggering; second the same. Money Muss got away flying, had clear sailing and won a very lucky race. He B had no Maugas to carrv him along in the first part of the race and that accounts for his lasting I out the route. Then again, the track was hard and fast which wa6 in his favor. Likeness ran a smashing race and displayed great gameness. Boland was hard at work on her all through the i last quarter and the till.v would have won in another stride. Lasance met with sharp interference on the far turn and this considered, ran a better race than did the winner. Silurian was on 1 the outside all the way and naturally lost much ground on all the turns. Princess Tatyana races i |»est in the mud. Icon made up ground throughout. Winner— B. f, by St. Florian or Mars— La Misere. Went to post at at 5 :25. At post 6 minutes. Start good for all but Dutch Comedian. Won hand ridden; second and third were driving to the limit. Malaise was sent away fully in her stride and showed the most speed. She is a filly of fine speed and was at her best today. Everything considered the price against her was out of line. Blue Lick was well handled and ran to the mark. The Bobby is a hard luck horse. He was badly interfered with on the first turn and knocked completely out of it, but showed great gameness and made up a tremendous lot of ground. The route was too far for Braw Lad and when he stopped he stopped all over. Rinaldo II. and Rhinelander also hung when the pinch came in the stretch. Dutch Comedian was turned the wrong way of the track when the barrier went up and was practically left at the post. Overweights— The Bobby, 2 pounds. Malaise, place, 5 to 1 ; show, 2 to 1.
