He took the lead at the start, showed great speed and was being eased up at the finish. Vesuvian was crowded at the start and closed fast but was hustled to beat Montanic at the finish. The Rose appeared dangerous in the stretch, but quit in the last sixteenth and was probably short. Sensational got the best of the start and ran an improving race. Lady of the Valley easily outran her field in the early part of the race, but was hard ridden at the end to stall off Delmarch. The latter ran a fine race, but was all out at the finish. Sentry was the medium of a plunge and ran his race. Minion ran a good race, but tired in the final strides. Scratched— 18534King Pepper, 123; Petra II., 110. Gonfalon ran his best race, and only secured second place in last stride. Water Cure was badly bumped at start by Big Gun. He made up his lost ground quickly and ran a fine race, but the pace and the effort to get up told on him. At that he should have been second, but Littlefield eased up on him in the final strides. He was in the ruck to the stretch where he got through and snowed a grand burst of speed but had to be hard ridden to get to and beat out Central Trust. Setting the pace told on the latter and he tired at tho end. Decanter ran a good race and was pocketed several times. First Whip and King Barleycorn tired. Scratched— 185042Oliver Mc. 106.
