NOTES OF THE TURF. At the next meeting of the Newport track a now presiding judge will be in the stand. Jackson Smith, who has presided in the past three meetings, has decided to sever his connections with racing in an official capacity. Nobody lias been mentioned to succeed Mr. Smith, and the Newport management is anxious for him to continue in office, but Mr. Smith has avowed that lie is done witli racing as an official. James R. Keeue heads the list of winning owners at the Sheepshead meeting just closed, with a total of S19.130 to his credit. Prince of Melbournes victory in the Realization placed F. D. Beard a close second witli S17.785. W. C. Whitneys stable won ? 12.730: EastinA Larabie. S7.350: C. Littlefield, Jr.. ,275. The Belmont Stake laurels of lldrim are beginning to re6t heavy upon him. His penalty and the concessions allowed to rivals that were not so fortunate in the early part of the season place him at a great disadvantage in condition stakes in which he has to struggle under heavy imposts. B. Termucci, Pittsburg, Pa. — Imps backer wins. It has always been decided so in this paper in cases where the additional starter was not known to be in the race when the wager was made. Owners now in Chicago, who may wish to make entries in the stakes of the Coney Island Jockey Club which close next Monday can obtain entry blanks at this office. B.
