Maldonado broke running and showed an excellent turn of speed. He simply played with his field and was never fully exteuded. Sortie was fortunate and ran bis race. Galanthus made a good, game showing. Handy Man could not outrun a fat man and his race was a bad one. Shut Up showed a flash of speed early. Winner— Ch. f, by Only Dare— Mollie Jones. Went to post at 2:45. Off at the first break to a good start. Won in a drive; second, third and fourth were doing their best. Rival Dare ran a cracking good _ race. She was far the best, and despite a bad ride, managed to win. Cooks attempt at a finish on her was a burlesque. The boy sat straight up in the saddle and instead of being a help he was a handicap to the filly. Miss Shanley did her best and was tired enough to lie down at the finish. John Grig-shy stumbled and almost fell shortly after the start, otherwise he might have won. Olekma, for a wonder, came from behind and displayed more stamina than ever before. Jim Gore 11. was sharply shut | off on the far turn and this ruined whatever chances he might have had. Emigre showed a lot of speed, but hung at the end. The same can be said of Emma M. Winner— B. c, by The Commoner— Birdie T. Went to post at 3:15. Off at the first break to a poor start. Won hand ridden ; second, third, fourth and fifth doing their best. Jiminez was well ridden and ran a high class race. He shouldered his 120 pounds like a good one and stood a hard drive from the head of the stretch home. Princess Tatyana started to come through next to the rail at the head of the stretch but was pinched off and this ruined whatever chance she had. Tyr was interfered with on the far turn and was under pressure for the last three-eighths of a mile. Oscar Tulle finished stoutly under punishment. Dandy Jim had no chance from where he got away. Harry Frost did well for a new beginner. Money Mnss hung at the end and was perhaps short. Scratched— 19471Icon, 113; 19293 Wampago, 102. Louisville was lucky and well ridden. Riders reversed. Pirate J. would have won. Herting, with a winning lead at the head of the stretch, stopped to look around and threw the colt off his stride. Sir Dick was right there all the way. Oneita made up ground throughout and ran a good race. Little Singer looked high and was not ready. Intriguer ran a very bad race. It was an ordinary lot. Winner— Ch. g, by Housatonic— Bessie Baker. Went to post at 4:15. At post 3 minutes. Start good. The first four were closely bunched aud driving to the limit. It was a very close finish and a hard one to decide. Bill Garrett was finely handled, showed a lot of speed, and hung on like a leech from the head of the stretch home. San Veuado was the best and should have won by a length or so. Winkfleld became a trifle overconfident in the stretch and ihrew the race away. Leando, on the outside, finished with a terrific rush and would have wu in a few more strides, luverary II. ran a cracking good race and made up a lot of ground in the final quarter. Etta seems to be of little or uo present account. The same comment applies to The Devil. Frelinghuysen showed improvement. Scratched— 19455*Duty, 100; 17974 Polly Pitcher, 101. Winner— B. g, by Apache— Lina. Went to post at 4 :45. Off at the first break to a poor start. Won handily ; second and third were under pressure. Castake was in his best form and made a runaway race of it. He has been knocking at the door in all of his recent races aud was about due to win. Ben Chance wa crowded out on the first turn and was compelled to take the long route. He swerved some in the stretch, but was clear at the time and caused no interfertnce. Blue Lick ran a good, honest race. Papa Harry was right there all the way and can win at once in lower company. Racivan was bumped and jostled at every turn. Won easily ; second and third were hard at it Hard Knot awoke with a start and ran the best race of his career. Herting kept the colt within striking distance of the leader all the way and went to the front when he got ready in the stretch. Mint Sauce had no excuses and showed a lot of speed, but the route was too far for him. John Baker ran gamely and would have been second in a few more strides. The race was always between the first three, although Van Hoorebeke was prominent for about a half mile. Lamachus ran a fair race. Scratched— 19569 Hub Prather. 102.
