NOTES OF THE TURF. The sprinter Ned died at Detroit Friday. Subscriber?, Chicago. — It was 2 to 5 place against Harry Pulliam in the first race at St. Louis Friday. In selecting C. H. Pettingill as the successor to Mr. Simmons as presiding judge, the Jockey Club secured an official who will do credit to the position. "Pet" has a host of friends in Chicago who congratulate him because of his new appointment, while they regret that it takes him away from the post he has filled so well at Washington Park.
