TIME IN ENGLAND. In a recent communication to a Lexington, Ky., publication, Mr. George Voorhies, lately returned from England, gives the following interesting statement about time made by horses in England : In one of my letters from London last year I mentioned that I had timed Korosko, 3, 1 3 pounds, over the last mile of the Epsom course in 1 :33, and I saw afterward that one of your exchanges Breeder and Sportsman seemed to be a little skeptical as to the performance. Shortly afterwards Harrow, three years, and, 1 think, with 126 lbs., ran the mile at Lingfi»ld in 1 :35*s. I do not know what weight Caiman carried the other day when he ran the mile at Lingfield in 1:33tb, but I am sure that he made the distance a little faster than reported, because I have never seen a race timed by Bensons man that he did not time from the drop of the starters flag when the horses are always a little back of the post, and in one instance he made the time nine seconds slower than tne actual time, as in the case of New-haven II. in the City and Suburban he gave the time as 2 ilS*-:,, while I timed the race in 2:094r,. 1 was within ten feet of the finish and could clearly see the horses pass the starting post. On this years Derby day Mr. Al Hall of Sacramento, CaL.and myself timed Giglio over the laBt mile at Epsom in 1:34, and Bridge three-quarters in 1:06 2-3, and Virginia Earl five-eighths in 56 2-5 seconds, and at Brighton this year Clarehaven, three years, 106 pounds, won the Brighton Cup, 11-4 miles, and did the distance, according to Benson chronograph, in 2:04 1-5. Then Piety in 1X98 won the Alexandra Plate, three miles, with 132 pounds, in 5:26; while Faugh-a-Ballagh, with 1:27 pounds, ran three miles in 5:26, nearly twenty years before Norfolk made his "worlds record" in 5:27 with only 100 pounds up. So in looking over the records made by horses in the different countries it would 6eem that our turf correspondents should be more careful _ "" OOHTIMUHD ON 8SOOND PAOl, TIME IN ENGLAND. Continued from First Page. about claiming the worlds records as they do every day for our horses. I do not consider Caimans mile. 1 :3S2s, as wonderful. I am sure that Cyllene or Flying Fox or Knight of the Thistle could last year have covered the LingfieM mile in 1 :33 or better with 126 pounds up. There are several horses in England on the turf this year that can beat Caiman at a mile. I am also certain that the horse that does the Lingfield mile in 1 :33 can not do a mile up the Cambridgeshire course better than 1 :+0. I am also positive on one thing, and that is, that all the courses in England, except the miles at Lingfield, Brighton, and at Epsom, are from two to four seconds slower than our scraped tracks with their thrown up turns.
