Sad Sam liked the heavy going and as the race was run was best. He has a habit of bearing out at the head of the stretch nnd did so in this race. Woodstick ran gamely making up much ground under a terrific drive through the stretch. Shut Up got away pooly but ran a good race, being much used early. Icon, on the extreme inside, quit almost to a walk in the stretch. Oscar showed a Hash of speed on the far turn but died away at the end. There was no choice in the going and Tally saved much ground and won the race by not swinging out at the head of the stretch as the other boys did. The Unknown liked the going and seemed to have plenty of speed, but hung when the pinch came. Nobleman was ridden all over the track. Wax was raced into submission trying to race with The Unknown. He swerved at the end. Etta, place. 11 to 10. The Unknown, place, 1 to 2. Nobleman, place, evens. Wax, place, 6 to 5. OAl l/l THIRD" RACE— 1 Mile. Winner— Br. h, by Strom boh— Clara u. Went to post at 3:35. Off at the rst break to a good start. Won easing up. Obsidian ran true to form, reveled in the going and had an easy time of it throughout. He is now in his best form and will be hard to beat in the mud. J. J. T. had a rough journey. He finished stoutly under pressure and barely got up in time to be second. Blue Dan liked the going and w»b right there all the way. Thomas Carey made a bid on the stretch turn, but died away at the end. Walken-bhaw seems to be of little or no present account. Winner— Cb.h, by St. Blaise — Susquehanna. Went to post at 4:10. At post 3 minutes. Start good. Won easily ; it was a terrific drive between the next two. Great Bend was in fine form, was well ridden and came away finely when called upon in the stretch. He is a mudlark of high decree. Ohnet ran a cracking good race uuder a poorly judged ride. McGinn used him too much in the first part of the race and was of little or no help to him when the pinch came. Macy ran a good honest race. Found set a terrific pace in the first part of the race, but stopped badly in the stretch. Prince Blazes was beaten off all the way and showed no high -.peed. Scratched-1999„: The Lady, 96. Went to post at 4 :45. At post 9 minutes. Start good. Won driving to the limit ; second the same. Josephine B. displayed great gamenes and barely got up in time to win. She is particularly fond of mud and in her best form. Lennep was stopping badly at the end. She showed a lot of speed, wa6 well handled and did her very best. Banish refused to break away from the post and was the cause cf the delay. He showed some speed, but hardly ran up to expectations. Branch seemed to flounder in the going and did not near run his race. Annowan made up some ground in the stretch. Josephine B., place, 7 to 5; show. 1 to 2. Lennep. place. 24 to 1 ; show, evens. Winner— Br. g, by Falsetto— Marmoset. Went to post at 5:25. Off at the second break to a perfect start. Won driving and staggering: second and third hlso under keen pressure. Pitfall liked the heavy going, was lucky, well ridden, and managed to las-t long enough to stagger home. Martha Fox would have won with a stronger rider up. Seaton was of no help to her when help was needed. Marion Lynch bumped her way through on the first turn and had a rough journey generally and was undoubtedly the best. Joe Shelbys racing days are about over. The field was badly strung out after they had gone the first quarter of a mile. Overweights— Nairete, 2 pounds ; Interferes !; Moch, 24.
