MCHESNEY SETS A RECORD. Although the off day card presented to the patrons of Harlem yesterday was little above the commonplace the racing was distinguished by the exploit of that excellent colt McCheBney, which ran six and a half furlongs in 1:18. This establishes a new American record for the distance, the best previous mark of 1:19 being made by Sly at the same course last summer. The contsst was a horse race from flagdip, Mc-Chesney running everything into submission by the time the head of the stretch had been reached. First Aladdin and then Hoodwink took a turn at him, but both had enough by the time the last quarter had been reached. Near-ing the last eighth McChesney began to increase his lead gradually, so that by the time the wire had been reached he was three lengths in front of Merriment, which had all sho could do to beat Aladdin a head for second money. South Trimble, as usual, came with his rush at the end. Many outside watches made the time faster than that hung out. The steeplechase proved an easy thing for Dick Furber after Walter Cleary had shiod at the last jump. The latter would undoubtedly have scored an easy victory, but just about the . time he was ready to take the last jump while in the lead he swerved "badly to the right and ran out of the course Dick Furber and Lord Chesterfield then came on taking the final obstacle tcgethe- but while coming down the stretch the ton: easily moved away winning by five leng-hs, while Lora Chesterfield beat Coronatus eight for Eecond place. . Andes finally awakened to the occasion and ran one of the beBt races of his career, taking the sprint race in a drivo bv a neck from If Yon Dare in the faBt time of 1:13. The latter boat Sharp Bird a head for second place. Master Mariner ran a good race and will probably be a hard horse to beat at his next outing. Blue Ridge, long overdue, tpok the first race rather easily by two lengths from Zibia, which beat Queen W. the same distance for Becond place. Smiths Reel showed quite a turn of speed, but died away faBt when the pinch came. Ereetorius, backed heavily by the talent, proved an easy victor in the second race, a daBh for youngsters at five and a half fnrlonge. He waB very speedy and made every post a winning one. He beat Mabel Winn by two lengths, I while she finished a length in front of Amoto. The last named turned into the stretch in last place, but was running past horses at the end. Stella Perkins did not run anywhere near her true form. The laBt race went to Ben Chance, which won more on his own courage than by any help he derived from Munro. He beat Kentucky Baba a noBe on the post in a hard drive. Laureate finished third three lengths away. Admotun ran a good race and is fit and ready to win if placed right.
