NOTES OF THE TURF. Dr. Fitzgerald, father of Starter Fitzgerald, has purchased of J. Underwood and Co. the bay horse Governor Griggs, foaled 1894, by Tristan-Silver Blue, by Longfellow, second dam Altaire, by King Alfonso Molly Wood, by Lexington, and he will be sent to London, Ont., where he will be used on native mares to produce carriage horses, Anxious, Chicago. T. Knight has been granted an apprentice allowance by the Western Jockey Club and is, of course, entitled to its benefits for a yenrv Bnt it should not have been granted to a rider of his experience and skill, and the .construction of the rules under which it was so granted waB a bad one. Col. James E. Pepper has sold the three-year-old chestnut colt, Baron Pepper, by Kantaka Bonnie Lassie, to Louis V. Bell, price not made public. The two-year-old chestnut filly Mary Bailey, by Wagner Flower Dellis, the property of Lee Smitha and Co., Lexington, Ky., died recently from pneumonia. A. F. T. : Yonr wager on Boiling Boer was decided by his running and you are not entitled to anything by reason of the success of St. Marcos. The Latonia book for the fall meeting is now in the hands of the printors and will be out in a few days. Either Dwyer or Holtman wiU wield the flag. It all dependB on which one goes to Frisco. J. E. Widener, Philadelphia, has sold to G. Miller, same place, the chestnut filly Marothen, 3, by Eothen Mary K for ,000. Inquirer, Chicago. A. loses his bet on City Bank. If he had intended or wished to include Pentecost he should have taken the Madden entry.
