NOTES OF THE TITBIT; Peter Webers system of training runners is being adopted by a large number of trainers. Walter Maben, of Los Angeles, is tho laBt one to work bis horseB on thiB plan, which iB driving them to a cart instead of having them ridden by an exercise boy. Mr. Weber claims that working colts to cart makes them better mannered, giveB them better mouthB and saves their legs, as they do not have to carry weight. Nervous horEes are often greatly improved by the driving system. It was made public recently, through weights and entries of Morris Park Stakes, that Blues waB not rold outright by Julius FleiBchmann. When the Mayor let the better part of his stable go last summer, Frank Farrell bought some of the stars. Blues was among hiB purchases. Whether Mr. FleiEcbmann bought back an interest in Blues is not known, but it has developed that Frank Farrell has only an interest, though the managing interest, in the horse. The Matron 8takes footed up considerably more than its guaranteed value of 0,000, aggregating 4,495. Of this the winners share was 7,747.50, while the second horse won ,-248.50 and the third horse ,499. Thus this great stake was made up wholly of money contributed by owners and cost tho association nothing. However, this condition will not prevail in the future as 0,000 is to be added to the Matron Stakes in future closings. When Clarence H. Mackay purchased Heno from J. E. Madden the price was not made public. Tuesday it was said on good authority that Mr. Mackay paid 2,500 for the colt, and as Henos share of the Matron Stakes was 7,747.50, the investment can bo regarded as being baBed upon good judgment. Sam Doggett, tha woll known jockey, has returned from Austria and was at Morris Park Wednesday. He says that Fred Taral, who has had great success in that country, will return to America next month, but will go back to Austria next year for another campaign. Catesby Woodford, Baceland Stud, Paris, Ky., has had the misfortune to lose the bay suckling colt by Sir Dixon Elopement, by Hindoo, therefore a half brother to Alcedo. He died from inflammation of the bowels a few days ago. While at the post for tho Matron Stakes Burns was set down for two days for breaking through the barrier and OConnor was fined 0 for misbehavior. In the last race Martin waB also set down for two dayB for disorder. After the last race at MorriB Park on Tuesday J. Tabor put in a claim for C. F. Dwyers Ethics, entered to be sold for 00, Wednesday Tabor returned Ethics to Dwyer for 00 after having turned down an offer of ,500 for the colt. Dayton and Hneston. the steeplechase jockeys, have been suspended and their cases referred to the National Hunt and Bteepleehase Association. E. Corrigan has claimed with the Messrs. Weatherby and Sons the name Lute for the two-year-old bay filly by Watercress Lucille Murphy. Martin Doyle, of Paris, Ky., has sold to H. E. Enapp, of New York, a yearling colt, by Sir Walter Maladay, by Eossington, for 00. Subscriber, Chicago. A is only entitled to hiB money back. With Vulcain scratched his bet waB a draw. G. A. H Chicago. You do not win on the entry and your wager was lost. A. J. C, Chicago. Your wagor on Saintly was a loser. -
