NOW FOB IiAKESIDE. Never has tho Lakeside track opened with fairer prospects thad those heralding the meeting which openB tomorrow. A big bettor, after regarding Mondays card critically, remarked that it looked good enough for Harlem or Hawthorne. There is no apparent reason why it should not-, seeing that all the best stables here, except George Bennetts, are taking up quarters at the Indiana track, which should enjoy a m8tingl6uperior in claBs to what the racing public has grown accustomed to expect at Boby. A compstent and well tried set of officials will be in the points, so mistakes in placing horEes are not likely. There will be no falling off in riding talent, though there was a chance that Cobnrn would not rido at Lakeside. This was because he re- ceived a handsome offer from Burns and Water-houeo to ride in San Francisco until Christmas, but he turned it down and engaged to ride for Sam Kildieth during the Lakeside meeting, after which he will take a Bhort vacation at Memphis beforo going oh to New Orleans. Yeeterday the ownerB of fourteen of the twenty-four horses entered for the Lakeside Handicap, the principal feature of tomorrows card, notified Secretary Nathanson they accepted the weights he had allotted. This unusual percentage of "contents" was a complim9nt to tho Secretarys skill ashandicapper, and it brought him many congratulations on landing Euch a feature race for his first days card.
