ROBERT WADDBtL INJURED. The sport at Lakeside yesterday waB marred by an injury to Bobert Waddell he wrenching his right shoulder badly jus before turning for home in the fourth race, a dash of one and three-eighths miles. The great American Derby winner waa hardly able to drag himself from the track and it will be many weeks before he is able to face the starter again. It was first thought he had hopelessly broken down but after a cai eful examination the injury was found to be not of the most serious natmre. With careful nursing he will probably ba able to race again next spring. For some unknown reason Bearcher was made the post favorite in thin race bat the public remained loyal to Bobert Waddell, whose price went to 6 to and at post time. To a good start Bearcher and Bobert Waddell ran as one horse for the first six fur loDgs, where the former drew away slightly and held the lead until nearing the first mile post where Bobert Waddell closed up in a few strides amid a lusty ahout from the grandstand. It appeared very much like the 1901 Derby winner along in hero, but just before rounding for home ho was seen to suddenly falter and was pulled up in a short distance. Searcher then drew away, beating Frangible eight lengths. Had Bobert Waddell not met with the accident he would certainly have won, as he had Searcher beaten at the time. Aegin, well backed by a select few, took the first race, a, dash of five furlongs, in rather easy fashion by two lengths from Fade Meny, which beat Lingo by a head in a driving finish for second place. Herae and Buzzer showed early speed, but died away when the pinch came. Baugh Naugh Gene showed the most speed in the second race, a dash of six furlonga, leading all the way and winning by a nose on the post from Aaron. Thelatter waa probably the better but received a weak ride from Hicks who had him pocketed badly when going down the back stretch. He closed up fast but could not quite get up. The Butcher finished third three lengths back. Lucille Bramble and Precursor ran well for five fnrlongs. Bummer was thrown into an easy spot in the third race, a six furlongs dash, winning as his rider pleased by four lengths. He simply played with his field. Star of Bethlehem, which wbb much the best of the others, beat Charley Moore four lengths for second place. Biren Bong showed a little early speed, but tired badly in the last eighth. Lucien Appleby, with Coburn up, proved to be the best in the five and a half furlong scramble for two-year-olds. After Bag Tag had maintained an easy command ud to the last eighth and had tired and quit Coburn brought up Lucien Appleby with a rush and under a strong ride he won by three-quarters of a length from Inspector Shea, which beat Merriment a length for second place. The last named has probably gone back a little. I. Ssmelson was always outrun. Of a bad field of twelve that went to the post in the last race Farmer Bennett succeeded in reaching the wire first. He came with a rush in the last eighth and, under a hard drive, beat out Woodatick a half length. The latter fin ished five lengths in front of Bed Apple for second place. Automaton ran well for six furlongs. "Pa" Bradley leaves Friday for Bennings with Mb entire string.
