SIR. HAGGINN LATEST. Mr. J. B. Haggin, of the Bancho del Paso and Elmendorf studs, has just secured another highly bred English stallion for his thoroughbred enterprise in the six-year-old horse Greenan, by 8t. Simon Sunrise. Greenan, who was bred by Mr. J. H. Houldsworth, -has always raced in that gentlemans "green and gold, yellow cap." Hia victories aa a three-year-old in 1898 comprised the Great National Breeders Foal Stakes at Redcar, for which he started favorite at 5 to 4, and won by two lengths, and the ,OC0 Great Yorkshire Stakes at York. The latter race was at a mile and three-quarters, and Greenan accomplished a neck victory over Batt, who had earlier in the year been beaten less than a length by Jeddah in the Epsom Derby. Aa a four-year-old Greenan won the ,000 Great Whitsuntide Handicap at Hurst Park from a strong field, subsequent to running a close second to Mr. L. O. Applebys horse Knight of the Thistle in the Kempton Park "Jubilee" Stakes. Later in tho same year Greenan had the hard luck-to be defeated a short head by the six-year-old Cassocks Pride for the ,000 Great Elor Handicap, one mile and three-quarters, at York. Greenan carriad 126 poundBin this race, conceding weight to overy one of his ten opponents, of whom CaBBocks Prido carried only 111. The third bores was Sinopi, then a three-year-old, which kas this year beoa unbeaton in the colors of Mr. FoxhaU Keene. Greenans career in 19C0, while marked by no victorias, witnessed him score a creditable second under 115 pounds to Strike a Light four yeare,!112 pounds in the Groat .Whitsuntide Handicap, one mile and a half, at Hurst Park, for which raco he was again theltop weight. On the score of bloodliness Grsonan is very choice. Hia sirs, St. Simon, is easily the champion stallion of the age, while Greenans dam Sunrise, ie most beautifully bred, being by Bpringfiold Snnray, she by King of the ForeBt Sunshine, she by Thormanby Sunbeam.which won the St. Leger of 18.5?. Tho family is a great one. Sunmo has herself produced Dunure, a full brother to Greenan, which is a successful stallion on the Continent. Greenans half Bister, Greeba, is the dam of Eager, Englands best miler of the last decade. Sunshine, Greenans third dam, also produced Bushey Park and Napoli, the latter being the dam of Orvieto and Larano, respectively winners of the Kempton Park "Jubilee" and the 10,000 Jockey Club Stakes. This blood has already scored in America, for Peep o Days dam, Bnndown, is by Springfield Sunshine, and Greenans dam is therefore bred oa exactly tha same lines, with the addition of a King of the Forest cross. The dam of Sunbeam was 8unfiower by Bay Middleton, to which Voter, Americas champion miler of recent years, traces directly the female line. Daily America.
