GOSSIP OF THE XOEF. Dispatches from the east eay that Trainer John Hnggins is anxious to have Mr, Whitney try again next year for the Derby, the blue ribbon of the English tnrf, and it is understood that a little persuasion from the trainer will make the millionaire consent. There is a chance that Nasturtium may be sent over to take part in this classic, but Mr. Whitnsy has not as yet made up his mind to ship the great two-year-old. When Huggins returns to England he will have in Mb charge the Derby winner, Volodyov-ski, and the yearlings which Mr. Whitney has leased from Lady Menx and whatever other horeeB may be Bent over from here. Mr. J. Harding, Brookwood Stud, FleaBure-ville,Ey., sold last week to G. B. Walters, Brooklyn, N. Y., the following yearlings: Silver Trinket, ch. f, by Silvermine Mandro-lina, by Fonso. Silver Dell, ch. f, by Silvermine Hennirea,by Luke Blackburn. Adelo Harding, ch. f, by Silvermine Idaho, by IroquoiB. Major Downe, br. c, by Silvermine Bpinaway II., by Fowhattan. Charlotte Newman, b. f, by Gov. Forakar Siby II., by Lelaps, Mr. A. Johnson, the turf name of a well known St. Lotfia Bportsman, owner, of Brulare and other cracks, has ODgaged jockey Beacchamp to ride for him next season in St. Louis. Beau-champ will remain in Louisvillo all winter. He recently furnished a house there and Bent for his wife and baby. The Bum he is to receive from Mr. Johnson is ,500 as a retaining fee, besides tho usual jockey fee. This should make the riders oarnings at loast 0,000 for the seasons work. Beauchamp, although by no means a star, can ride a "mean" race when he wants to. Ab there may be no Wonderlys, Cochrane, Bedferns or OConnors Been in the saddle at either Delmar or the Fair Grounds, Beauchamp should have no trouble in making good, especially when riding Mr. Johnsons horses. Mr. Johnson is at prasandnt on a tour of Kentucky and other breeding astablishmonts with his friend Mr. Darden. Tho engagement of Beauchamp and Mr. Johnsons present tour means that the latter will have a large and firet-claes stable running about St. Louis.
