NOTES OF THE TUBP. There is much secrecy concerning the name of the colt that JameB B. Eeene has shipped to Europe with Conroy and two yearlings. It is generally believed to be either the Meddler Sylva Belle colt or Precentor, by Chorister-Lady Invercauld. Whatever it is, it has never started in this country, and is believed to be a candidate for the English Derby. Henry Spencer, the jockey, now riding at Oakland, Cal,, has incipient consumption. It is said that he will leave for Arizona soon to get the benefit of the dry climate there. Many efforts to keep down his increasing weight have probably undermined his constitution. Spencer, until recently, was thought to be one of the best riders in America. The stable of W. H. May and Son has reached Memphis from Lexington and is now in winter quarters at Montgomery Park. The string Includes The Esmond, Drummond, Clorita, year ling brown Ally by Wagner Violette, yearling chestnut colt by St. Blaise Meddle, and a yearling bay colt by Bpokane Lily B. Amelia Strathmore, a very consistent winner in the stable of Thomas H. Stevens the past season, has bean purchased by C. F. McMeekin, and will become one of the band of matrons at Oakwood Stud. Amelia Strathmore is coming five years old, She is br Strathmore Amelia P. W. F. Bruen of St. Louis has been appointed starter of the coming meeting at Charleston, S. C. The judges will be J. B. Morrow of Nashville, Tenn. ; Henry Tapper of Charleston and George B. McGhee of Columbia.
