Sigmund, always well up, ran Mirance into submission, but along about the eighth post was joined by Topsoil and Rosanco, the three fighting it out desperately to the wire. Top-soil ran to his best form. Rosanco began slowly, but finished strongly. Gallant Smith hardly ran his race. Paeeant showed early speed. Sidney C. Love got off poorly and appeared unable to extend himself in the going. Mirance ran well for a half mile. Scratched 32937 Pericles. 102. Overweights Bernays, 4 pounds; Gallant Smith, 1 ; Mirance,!. Conundrum was taken next to the inside rail turning for home, thus saving ground. He had to be driven hard all through the last eighth to offset Pyrrhos determined bid on the outside. The latter finished strongly and would have won in a few more strides. He closed up much ground down the last quarter. Semicolon tired in the laBt eighth. Lovable appeared to have a winning chance at the last eighth, but sprawled badly when the pinch came. If You Dare had enough a furlong out. LEtrenne showed much early speed and ran If You Dare into submission. The winner, entered for 00, was run up to ,500 by A. Simons and bid in. Articulate ran to his best form and, after turning into the backstretch, gradually drew away from the field. Vulcain was easily the best of the others. He was under punishment all through the last quarter and lurched badly in the closing strides. Wellesley showed some early speed. The others were always outrun. Lady Matchless revelled in the going, showed much speed and stood off Belle Grahams bid in the last sixteenth with gamenees. The latter closed up fast in the last quarter, but hung in the closing strides. Eva Bussell finished rather strongly after running at about an even clip throughout. Josette showed a flash of early speed, but fell away hopelessly beaten just after turning for home. She apparently could not extend herself at her best in the heavy, sticky going of the stretch. Peat was not called on until the mile had been run, where he went to the front with ease. He is a most consistent racing tool. Trentham stood off Marshal Neils bid in the last eighth with determination. The latter ran to his best form. Digby Bell was the victim of a weak ride, and was pocketed all through the last quarter, Waldo being of little or no help to him. The others were never serious contenders.
