HAWTHORNE STAKES TO CLOSE. The 6ummer meeting of the Chicago Jockey Club will open immediately upon the close of the Washington Park season, the inaugural date being July 21. The Harlem track will be the scene of tho Chicago Jockey Clubs operations for the twelve days ensuing, as the Cicero course will not be ready for the entertainment of horse followers until the fall meeting. Secretary Clark, co-operating with Secretary Nathanson, is making strenuous efforts to keep the best class of western horses in this section for the remainder of the racing year, and has assurances that the majority of the stables now engaged at Washington Park will remain. Tho most important of tho Hawthorne stakes, which closed early in tho spring, have yet to be run. Tho Great Northern Handicap, with ,000 added, and The Monadnock Handicap, with ,000 added, being among them. In addition to the list already closed ten stakes are announced to close Monday, July 14. They are: The Olympia Stakes, for threo-year-olds and upward, 1 1-16 miles, ,000 added. The Autumn Handicap, for three-year-olds and upward, 1 1-4 miles, ,500 added. The Speculation Handicap, for three-year-olds and upward, 1 1-16 miles, ,500 added.
