Count Em Out was much the best and had to be to win. Off almost last he began slowly, but while going down the backstretch picked up the field fast and coming strongly in the last eighth was going away at the end. Alone Abbott tired palpably when a sixteenth out and just lasted long enough to get second place. Hopefleld came with a rush in the last sixteenth and would havo been second in a stride or two.. The Texan showed early speed. Somersault was well beaten after showing well for six furlongs. James J. Corbett showed well for six furlongs. M. revelled in the going and simply played with tbe field, displaying keen speed throughout. Senora Maria tired slightly in the last sixteenth after showing well up to that point. Howendobler finished strongly and was gradually wearing down Senora Maria in the closing strides. About ran far below her best form in going that she favors. G. was ridden with excellent judgment, the boy making his run with her at the right time. She came away fast in the last eighth. Iceni showed much improvement, always lying well up with the leaders, fencing clearly and finishing stoutly. In the last eighth he bumped into Captain Conover, almost throwing him over the inside rail. For this he was disqualified. Wenlock tired badly in the stretch run after racing well up to this point. Captain Conover was running fast when the foul occurred. Scorpio jumped stiffly, losing ground throughout. Greek Dollar fell over the fifth jump and Meddler over the ninth. Ravensbury made a strong bid to cut Little Elkins lead down in the last quarter, but gave it up just before the last eighth post had been reached. Scotch Plaid ran Alee into submission in the first half and then came away under gentle urging. Peat finished with a rush and was running strongly at the end. He was taken wide at the head of the stretch, losing ground. Alee was well beaten when turning for home. Kazan ran at about an even gait throughout. He bears watching from now on.
