NOTES OF THE TURF. John E, Madden is said to be very sweet on the work which Jockey Lucien Lyne is doing at Saratoga. Rumor has it that he is negotiating with Sanford C. Lyne, father of the lad, for a contract for next year. The present contract with John A. Drake doesnt expire until December 1. The get of August Belmonts stallion Hastings have won thirty-eight races and a total of 6,945 this season. Secretary James Howard of the Washington Park Clnb is at Saratoga recuperating and, incidentally, taking in the races. R. T. Wilson Jr.s big colt, Flying Buttress, was taken out of the third race at Saratoga Saturday by M. J. Cavanaugh for ,080. Twelve yearlings from Barney Schreibers Woodlands Stud were sold in the paddock at Kinloch Park Saturday and brought a total of ,925, an average of 77 a head. The top price was ,500, paid by Albert Simons for the brown filly by Sain Jennie McFarland.
