Federal finished resolutely under a vigorous ride and just got up in time to win on the post. He was slightly cut off on the first turn by Colonol Zack. Elsie L ran to her best form and showed keen speed throughout, but was not quite good enough. Nickey D. tired when the last eighth struggle was on. Colonel Zack showed a flash of early speed. Ahola, always well up, came strongly in the last eighth and was gradually going away at the end. Au Bevoir hung slightly when turning for home, but rallied in the final sixteenth and finished fast. The Picket saved ground by being taken next to the inside when turning for home. He appeared to have a winning chance when opposite the paddock gate, but faltered in the closing strides under heavy punishment. Goodman showed mueh improvement and hung on longer than usual. Off at tho first break to a fair start. Won easily; second the same. Mac-Laren ran to his best form, showed speed throughout, fenced cleanly and won at the end as his rider pleased. In the last sixteenth he ran across Dr. Nowlin, causing the latter to pull up. The latter showed much improvement, fenced without a fumble and would undoubtedly have been a sharp contender at the finish had it not been for the interference. Captain Conover finished strongly. Lord Farandole tired in the last eighth. Helen Paxton lost her rider at the last jump. Old Fox-fell heavily over the eighth jump. Golden Link fell at the sixth jump. Harry New ran to his best form. He contested every foot of the last sixteenth, responded gamely, but was not quite good enough. Artena finished strongly. Bose Tree was well beaten whea a sixteenth from home, after showing keen speed up to this point Bon Hot ran well for only six f urlongg. Piederich ran an excellent race from where he got off. Corrigan needs the mud to run to his best form. Hunter Baine was a sharp contender for about seven furlongs.
