Stevedore, away running and lucky throughout, just lasted out to beat Van Ness. The latter was pocketed early and compelled to race wide on the turn, but finished strongly. The Pride of Surrey was reserved and nursed carefully throughout for third place. Biserta is improving and finished strongly. Feme Sole, away badly, made up much ground and finished strongly. Tribes Hill, a slow beginner, was going well at the end and can do much better. Filiform, interfered with at the start, closed a big gap and is worth remembering " Scratched 34509 Hans Wagner, 107 : 34579 Mary Worth, 106; 34555 Eddie Busch, 106; 34340 Valley Forge, 105; 34365 Joy Maker, 103; 32910 Lieschen, 103; 34555 May J., 96. At post 2 minutes. Start good. Won easily ; second the same. Sallust may have been best. He fenced poorly, but showed plenty of speed on the flat. Inaction characterized the behavior of those behind him. Inkerman swerved all over the course and waB a dangerous and disturbing factor throughout. Headland tired after making the pace for the first mile on sufferance. Victor, went hopelessly wide on the turns and was generally messed about, receiving a losing ride, and when going very strongly his jockey conveniently fell off at the Liverpool. Scratched 34459 Inspector Stevens, 168; 34531 Filon dOr, 150. Sallust, show, 1 to 4. Inkerman, show, evens. Headland,,show, 4 to 5. Victor, show, 7 to 10. Gala-had, show, 3 to 5. Winner Gr. g, by St. George Una B. trained by W. P. Burch. Went to post at 3:15. At post 6 minutes. Start straggling. Won easily; second the same. Grey Friar was best, received a lucky start and powerful ride, drew to the front on the turn and won going away. Eugenia Burch finished with a rush and ran a grand race. Merry Acrobat, outrun from a flat-footed start, went around the field and finished fast, but favors soft going. Counterpoise was easily third best and is a probable good one, but was not ridden well. Sailmaker favors soft going, got away flatfooted, closed a big gap and finished like a whirlwind. Grantsdale had no chance with his start or rider. Bounding Beauty went a fast half. Scoffer, away badly, can do better. Scratched 34506 Bellgardo, 106; 34339 Tantalus Cup, 105: 339893Kentucky Bose, 102. Grey Friar, show, 2 to 5. Eugenia Burch, show, evens. Sombrero, under a choking pull, went to the front on the backstretch and in effect cantered the remainder of the journey. Baron Pepper fell out of the race on the backstretch, allowing the winner to steal a long lead and came with a belated rush at the end and was probably best. He had no chance with the ride, which looked very bad, and pulled up lame. Cogswell outstayed Douro at the end. The latter tired after a hard effort to boat Sombrero. Latson was well up for seven furlongs. Scratched 345333 Andy Williams, 114; 345582The Amazon, 99. Sombrero, show, out. Baron Pepper, show, out. Cogswell, show, 4 to 5. Douro. show, 1 to 4.
