Wainwright waited with Shrine until in the last quarter before making his run, came around the leaders at the stretch turn and outgamed them when it came to a drive. Artvis tired when the pinch came. He was used up in chasing Golden Rule in the first half. Sevoy was always outrun. Golden Rule appeared like a winner when a sixteenth out, but he tired at the end and could not stall off Shrines challenge. Sevoy was beaten off three lengths for third place. Annie Lauretta showed early speed and raced Great Star into exhaustion, then hung on stoutly when the pinch came. Great Star was tiring and was made too much use of in the first part of the race. The others allowed him to go out and open up a winning gap in the first half, but he was tiring at the end. Knight never made a move with Piedorich until too late. Curtsey was cut off at the turn into the backstretch and ONeil pulled her up. She closed a big gap, but the effort told at the end and she tired.
