LOCAL TURF GOSSIP. E. Corrigan yesterday protested the race of August 28 in which Hermencia, after winning, was disqualified, thus placing Scarlet Lily first and Mr. Corrigans mare, Artena, second. Mr. Corrigan claims that S. S. Tracey, owner and trainer of Scarlet Lily, is still an outlaw, not having been formally reinstated by The Jockey Club since he raced on the Maryland outlaw tracks several years ago. Tracey has raced tor the last two years under trainers licenses granted by both The Jockey Club and Western Jockey Club. The matter has been referred to the Western Jockey Club and, pending its settlement, Scarlet Lily will not be allowed to start. Her entry is therefore void in both races today, in which she was named to go. If the Western Jockey Club upholds Mr. Corrigans contention all the money won by Scarlet Lily will be invalidated. The entry on Laura K. will be refused in future by the Hawthorne judges until she is properly schooled at the barrier. C. B. Ellison arrived at Hawthorne from the east yesterday. Mr. Ellison has secured first call on the services of jockey Jesse Mathews until after the Worth meeting. The judges at Hawthorne handed down the following decision yesterday : "After a thorough examination of the horse, Flying Torpedo, the ruling of September 16vrefnsine his entry on the ground of inconsistent running, is amended, and the horses entries are refused by the Chicago Jockey Club only on a hard track and his entry will be received for muddy or deep tracks." M. H. Tichenor and Co. have sold the following horses to J. S. Bratton of St. Louis: Fatalist, John C. King, Bicycle and Helen Howard. Terms private. E. Trotter has taken Ravensbury, Style and Theory to St. Louis and will race them there in the interest of S. C. Hildreth.
