Pierce J. was much the best and, after running Benmora into submission in the first half mile, came away easily, winning as his rider pleased. Filiform ran an excollent race. He appeared to have little chance from where he got off, but made up ground fast in the last half and finished strongly, just getting up in time to get second place. Russellton was bumped by Benmora in the last thirty yards, which was responsible for his losing second place. Benmora, off far in front, showed early speed, but tired fast when the pinch came. Lass of Langden showed early speed. She runs to her best form on a fast track. On the way to the post Knapp lost control of Topsoil and the gelding ran away three miles before he could be stopped. Chicago Girl made up much ground in the last quarter and finished strongly. Penance showed a little early speed. Courage ran a dull race in going she likes and can do much better. The latter ran a good race, but tired slightly when the pinch came. Count Em Out appeared the winner when a furlong out, but faltered badly in the last thirty yards.
