LOCAL TURF GOSSIP. Secretary and Mrs. Sheridan Clark will leave at the close of the Hawthorne races for their home in Haverstraw, N. Y. After a three weeks stay there they will go to New Orleans, where Mr. Clark will get things in readiness for the Crescent City Jockey Clubs winter meeting. During his absence from Chicago Mr. Jasper, of the Worth Club, and Mr. Harry White will look after Mr. Clarks interests. J. W. Bud May will train next year a stable of horses on the eastern tracks owned by a couple of Wall street brokers who have expended 5,000 for yearlings at recent sales. C. S. Bush, president and general manager of the Crescent City Jockey Club, wired President T. H. Williams of the California Jockey Club requesting the temporary release of starter Holtman. Should Mr. Williams grant the request of Mr. Bush, Holt-man will act as starter at New Orleans until Mr. Fitzgerald is fully recovered and able to resume his duties. Jockeys Coburn and Troxler were each fined 0 by the starter in the fifth race for misbehavior at the post. J. G. Heckscher, a prominent member of the Coney Island Jockey Club, was a visitor at Hawthorne yesterday.
