Senator Morrison b?gan slowly and appeared to be badly beaten in the first half, but made up ground fast thereafter and gradually wore down Rankin in the closing strides. The latter finished strongly, running next to the inside rail. Marco showed speed, but faltered when the pinch came. Emir made up much ground in the last quarter and finished resolutely. Maxette was the victim of a bad ride and was pocketed through the entire journey. Pure Dale displayed much speed, but fell away when a furlong out. Serpent made up ground fast when turning for home and under a vigorous ride outstayed Balm of Gilead and Leviathan in the last eighth struggle. Balm of Gilead fought it out hard with Leviathan in the closing strides The latter swerved gradually in toward the inside rail in the last sixteenth and tired fast in the last thirty yards, Sol saved ground by taking a short turn at the head of the stretch, but was well beaten by the time the last sixteenth post had been reached. Mathews was caught napping on Botany when the barrier went up, getting him off fiatfooted. He had no chance after that. Corrected weights Sol, 119. , . , , , Serpent, show, 2 to 5.
