JACK DEMUND AGAIN. TheFgoing at Harlem yesterday was in as bad condition as it was possible to be and the gloomy, threatening weather held the attendance down to the regulars. The card was made tip of purse races and the sport was very tame throughout. The most important race of the day was the fourth, a dash of six furlongs for three-year-olds and upward. C. B. Campbell on his last race was made a prime favorite, being held at 7 to 5 in the betting, but.the bestjhe could do was to run fifth, the win-nerlcurning up in Jack Demund, which was skillfully ridden by Buchanan. Herodiade led by a big margin up to the last eighth and appeared to be the winner, tbut in the final sixteenth Jack Demund wore him down fast, winning handily by one length from Charley Thompson, which beat Corinno Un-land a head for second place. Corinne Unland began slowly, but made up ground fast in the last quarter and was running past horses at the end. Herodiade tired fast when the pinch came. C. B. Campbell was beaten when a furlong out. The days opening race.a dash of fivejandlone-half furlongs for maiden two-year-old fillies, ventrto ImpetuOusV which beat Goody Twoshoe"sa neck in a spirited last sixteenth struggle. Animula came fast at the end and was beaten only a head by Goody Twoshoses for second place. Wil-kenson was unable to keep the winner from bearing over against Goody Twoshoes in the last fifty .yards, but the interfering was not enough to change the Iresult, and the claim of foul lodged byJDon-rielly was not allowed. Monia made up ground in the laBt quarterand finishedstrongly. fcThe second race, a four and -,a Shalf jfurlongs scramble for two-year-olds, resulted in anexciting finish, LouisellCollier winning;by,,a;tlengch,;while Joe Buckley, The Don and;Mallory finished heads apart in the order named. QLauralF. M. led by a big margin up to the last fifty yards, whore.fshe tired fast. About here LouiseCollier, which had moved up fast when turning for home, passed into the lead, holding it to the wire, winning handily. Joe Buckley stood a long stretch drive with sameness and would not be denied in the closing strides. The Don was given a listless ride, but was passing horses fast at the end. Mallory began slowly and just before entering the stretch appeared to be hopelessly beaten off, but when well straightened for home he closed up ground fast and finished strongly. He appeared sore and stiff when going to the post. The third race, a seven furlongs dash for all ages, was taken by Lord Touchwood the odds-on favorite, but he had all he could do to win by a short head on the post from Hoodwink, which beat Fake eight lengths for second place. Marco closely pressed by Fake and Hoodwink showed the way for the first half where he fell away Ibeaten. Fake and Hoodwink then took upthe running, but;the former tired fast in the last quarter and fell away beaten when a furlong from home. Along aboutlthe last eighth Lord Touchwood, which hadjbeen badlyioutrun up to this point, gradually closed up on! Hoodwink and outstayed her to the wire under a hard drive. The others were never serious contenders. Lady Meddlesome was thrown into a soft spot in the fifth race, a dash of one and one-sixteenth miles for three-year-olds and upward, winninglin a canter by six lengths from Do Madge, which beat Filiform ten for second place. Do Madge led for the flrs seven furlongs, where Lady Meddlesome easily passed into the lead on call and won as her xider pleased. Barrack labored heavily in the going and was never a serious contender. The last race of the day, at one mile and a sixteenth, went to Mary Moore, smartly backed by a 4lwise" few. She led from start to finish, winning easily by one length from All About, lwhich beat Alaska a neck for second place. All About waB tinder keen pressure all through the last quarter and outstayed Alaska, which finished stoutly under a vigorous ride. Betting was somewhat lively for the crowd in attendance. The track at its best today will be holding and heavy,
