Interval set a fast pace and held on gamely. Squid trailed far back and dropped into third place at the end after Parisienne retired. The latter, almost left, closed a tremendous gap in the first half and then tired badly. The going anchored her, but she outclasses this kind except Oleflant on a fast track. Start good. Won easily; second driving, Stuyve waited on the pacemaker to the stretch where he easily went to the front and was much the best today. Ocla-waha suddenly improved, ran well and finished strongly. King Pepper tired and quit after going a fast half and was evidently unfit. Maiden went well throughout. Setauket, outrun early, was closing up at the end. The track was not muddy enough for him. Bluff, nearly left again, trailed throughout and could have been easily second with a more vigorous ride. Clande was lucky and saved to the stretch, where he made good in resolute style. Sheriff Bell, easily best, raced the first half in bad going next to the rail and wcrked out a rough journey and finished with a rush. Witfull closed Tip ground steadily and ran the best race of her career and was evidently favored by the going. Lord Turco, carried wide and bumped in the stretchy was a good horse and much improved. Scoffer injudiciously forced the pace in the worst going and swerved all over the stretch. Examiner broke slowly and improved his position throughout. Lowly, nearly left, closed a big gap and must houseful. First Chip was raced to a standstill in the first half and was easing up right at the end.
