The bad start confined the race to the first three, the rest bf the field being practically left at the post. Eleanor Howard was lucky, showed considerable speed and finished stoutly. Orrie Goan ran to his beat form. Lys-beth ran fairly well. Santa Ventura and Assessment closed up strongly from a very bad beginning. Lasso never tried after the start. Elastic was well handled, was always in hand and won eased up. Happy Chappy showed the most early speed, but tired in the stretch run. Dr. Scharff ran a good race from a bad beginning and finished strongly. Tenny Belle improved suddenly and made a bold bid, but weakened in the run home. Mayor Johnson, off badly, went to the leaders quickly and appeared the winner when he ran out on the stretch turn. Scratched 35253 Yana, 107. Elastic, show, 1 to 3. Happy Chappy, show, 4 to 5. Nearest was well rated behind the pacemakers saved ground at the stretch entry where the othr contenders all bumped and won with something left. Edgardo was off badly, pulled up after the start, taken the long way and given a bad ride but closed up stoutly at the end. Satin Coat ran a good race all the way and would have been closer up but for interference in the stretch. Bnccleuth was poorly handled, Morse sat still on him all the warand never moved though the horse was running past bis field at the end. Prosper La Gai and Red Apple had it out in frojnt and both tired from excessive use. W. B. Gates hardly ran bis race. Scratched 35602 Schwalbe, 106; 35602 Bill Massie, 96. Nearest, show, 3 to 2. Adios showed speed but tired in the stretch. Monsieur Beaucaire ran a good race and finished fast. Bas dOr tired after showing early speed. Pennants bad legs hurt him and he quit. Carat was well rated to the stretch, then came on in leisurely fashion and won easing up. Lunar, well ridden, ran a good race, but found the weight oppressive. Satchel was made excessive use of in front and tired. She likes to run from behind. Orris quit cold when she appoared like a winner. Throw the race out for her. Eleven Bells and Fon Spray w ere off in the second division and ran exceedingly good races from where they got off. The Messenger showed speed but found the weight trying. Tros ran a fine race, was cut off at the stretch entry, but finished very strongly. Kohnwreath showed wonderful improvement and should win presently. Sweet Dream quit after running a fast half.
