Lou Woods came with a rush at the end after making up much ground in the last quarter. Jaubert stood a long stretch drive with gameness and finished strongly. Charley Thompson ran well for five and one-half furlongs. Corinne Unland was never a serious contender and has probably trained off. Balm of Giload showed much early speed. Scratched 35865 J. V. King Popper, off running, showed much speed but had to be driven out at tho end to stall off Golden Rules determined finish. Hoar hit the winner with the whip in tho last twenty yards and he jumped into the air, losing some ground. . Golden Rule was under a hard drive all through the last quarter but could not quite get up. Irene Lindsey finished strongly in going she does not like. Theory was always outrun. The latter showed sudden and great improvement aud ran by pounds the best race of her career. She came strongly in the last eighth but faltered just a shade in the last few strides. Waswift showed much speed but tired rapidly in the last eighth. Scarlet Lily fell away beaten when turning for home but rallied somewhat in tho last sixteenth and wonld have beaten Waswift in another stride or two for third place. McChoBney appeared to labor in the soft going all tho way and was never a serious contender and the same may be said of Caliban. Rolling Boer might just as well have remained in his stall. Gregor K. ran out to the outside rail after rounding the first turn, but recovered and showed well while going down the back-stretch. The effort to recover the lost ground took all the vigor out of him and he had. nothing- left to finish with. Barca tired fast in tho last quarter. Durazzo showed a little aarly speed.
